Boost Your Banner Proficiency with Upcoming Courses

The Office of the Registrar is hosting a number of Banner training courses within the next few months. Be sure to save your spot by logging in to the UC Learning Center and completing your registration.

Courses are open to staff and faculty of all experience levels. They are held in the Student Services Building (SSB), which houses the Highlander One-Stop Shop (HOSS) on the first floor. Bring your questions and a laptop (if you have one) on training day.

  1. Log in to the UC Learning Center
  2. Select the “Find A Course” box on the welcome page and enter the course title in the search field. Your course of interest will appear in the results. 
  3. Select the linked course title and follow the steps to finalize registration.

    Course Request System (CRS) Training

    Open to Course Preparers/Approvers and Enrollment Managers

    Topics include how to gain user access to CRS, role-based navigation training, best practices for syllabus submission, and experiencing a successful course submission outcome.

    Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2–3:30 p.m.

    Degree Audits and 4 Year Plans

    Open to Academic Advisors and Athletic Academic Services

    An overview of the degree audit structure and composition. Additional topics include refreshing the audit, notes, worksheet views, exceptions, what-if audits, the GPA calculator, and how to create or modify a four-year course plan.

    Overview of the General Student Record (SGASTDN), General Person and General Student Navigation

    Open to all Banner users 

    Review the SGASTDN (General Student) form to enhance understanding. Making changes to the form is not covered in this session. Participants see where to locate biodemographical data, view holds and comments, identify athletes and international students, view advisors assigned, view a student class schedule, and locate reasons why a student may be inactive.

    Academic Scheduling

    Open to Enrollment Managers and Department Scheduling Coordinators

    Topics include creating and managing course sections ranging from basic lectures, to linked and/or cross-listed lectures, labs, discussions, and online sections with various section enrollment options.

    Open to Enrollment Managers

    Topics include how to reserve enrollment seats on course sections for designated student populations and/or to waitlist course sections.

    Curricular Maintenance and Changes

    Open to Academic Advisors and Staff who process curricula changes

    Review the procedures to update student curricula and catalog years to enhance understanding. Participants will learn how Banner curricula rules are structured, as well as how to change catalog years, add and remove minors and concentrations, change majors, add second majors, and designate a primary curricula.

    Academic History Navigation, the Student Profile, and Assigning Advisors

    Open to all Banner users 

    Review the academic history forms to enhance understanding. Participants view academic history to include grades and grade changes, units earned, academic standing, graduation applications and conferred degree information, transfer work, and advisors assigned to students. Reviewing the Student Profile is also included. Making changes to student records is covered for assigning advisors to student records and adding advisor notes.
